We took Caitlin back to the doctor today (thanks again Aunt Amy for watching Conall). Last week, the doctor had said that if Caitlin wasn't "significantly" better in a week to bring her back and they might draw blood for food allergy tests. Since she puked every other night, we thought we'd better take her back just in case.
Luckily, the doctor didn't feel like it was a food allergy and didn't draw blood. Today's doctor said that sometimes it takes 1-3 weeks for the reflux medicine to make the vomiting go away completely. He really felt like it was acid reflux, but also thought that maybe sinus drainage was making it worse. So, for a week, she takes a super-dry you-out antihistamine at bedtime to see if it will help. If so, then, she just takes it as needed.
Since Caitlin has improved, the doctor really felt like the reflux would continue to get better. If it were a food allergy, she would puke every time she ate that particular food.
Caitlin will take reflux medicine for 2-3 months to take care of the puking and to heal up any problems it may have caused in her esophagus. Oh, and the other good news -- her stool sample tests came back negative, so she doesn't have the bacterial infection they were testing for.
