Recovering From Strep and Making Trucks

Conall got sick Thursday night and spent most of the night complaining of a sore throat and puking. We went to the doctor Friday and they tested him for strep throat, which turns out he had. Funny thing is, he never really ran a fever. Luckily, the doctor wanted him to have an antibiotic shot rather than oral antibiotics, since he had been puking so much. He was full of pent up energy and ready for school on Monday.

While recuperating, Conall made a truck for Caitlin out of some boxes that I had set aside to recycle. He taped everything together and drew pictures for the interior. They both were really proud of it and it was lots of fun until they started fighting over it. Needless to say, it went out with the recycling this morning. I'm waiting on the fit one or both of them throws when they realize it is gone.

Early Morning

Well, it is 5 a.m. and I'm awake and coughing. I finally decided to just stay up. Since I finished my book last night, here I am on the computer.

Caitlin woke up late last night puking and I'm not sure why. I guess it is just more reflux, but if it is, then it isn't under control. There is also always the possibility that she's caught something. I don't like either possibility.

Today is Conall's last day of pre-K. He is so excited about summer break and has all kinds of ideas in his head about what it means and what he is going to do. Of course, there is also the idea that once pre-K is over he "is a big grown up kid and you can't tell me what to do." That is straight from his mouth on pre-K graduation day. Luckily, he has figured out that even if he thinks this, mommy and daddy don't.

I was looking at a picture last night that the school photographer took of him last week at Wacky Water Days. He looks so tall and grown up. He has this intense look on his face and I got a small glimpse of what he'll look like when he's older -- I think he's going to be that mysterious, tall dark and handsome guy that girls fawn over. He is so intense and has been since the moment he was born.

Onto the Next Illness

Here we go again ...
Conall didn't seem himself at all yesterday. He was grouchy, whining a lot, and seemed much less energetic than usual. I kept asking if he felt ok, but he kept telling me he did. I thought maybe he was having allergy trouble since it is spring and he was sneezing and seemed to have drainage.
He woke up last night with a fever and complaining that his throat hurt. He woke up this morning around 5 with puking. I don't know if he has strep or something else -- the fever doesn't seem high enough (yet) for strep, but we're going to try to get him in to see the doctor today.

We Shall See

Well, so far today,we made it with no puking. Since it is 11:30 at night, I think it is safe to say that.
Conall is still running a low grade fever and hardly eating. He experienced some diarrhea-like cramping, but other than seeming really tired, he seems to be better.

Caitlin is well on her way to regaining her weight with her enthusiastic appetite. I think she is literally grazing all day with a few meals thrown in to break things up!

Too Good

It was just too good to be true ... Conall is puking again tonight.

My Sweet Boy

Conall is such a sweet, sensitive little boy. After he woke up puking, I cleaned him and his bed up. He kept crying and screaming every time I touched him while I was helping him change his clothes. At first I thought he was upset at puking or that my hands were too cold (he also has a fever). He was crying and told me "don't touch me!" and kept moving away from me.

I made him tell me why he didn't want me to touch him, in case something else was wrong. He burst into tears and said "I don't want you to get my virus -- you'll get it if you touch me!" I gave him a huge hug and explained as best I could that touching him wouldn't make me get sick.

How sweet that, as sick as he is, he was worried about his mommy getting sick! My eyes tear up just thinking about it. He is such a sweet, kind-hearted little boy.

I hate that my babies have been/are this sick!

Round 2

Well, I guess it was inevitable. Conall now has this horrible virus. I wonder who is next?

Still Sick

Caitlin is still pretty sick. The vomiting seems better, but the diarrhea is pretty bad. She's also running 102-104 degree fever and threw up her last dose of Tylenol.
So far, the rest of us seem ok.

Here We Go Again

Here we go again -- we're on to the next virus. Caitlin started puking last night around 8 and hasn't stopped since -- dry heaves and everything. She was up most of the night with it.

We took her to the doctor this morning, but unfortunately, unless she gets much worse, there isn't anything they can give her to stop it because of her age. The doctor warned me that the diarrhea is next.

The good news is that she is still hydrated and doesn't have a fever. I just hope and pray that no one else in our family gets this. It has been horrible thus far! Poor little bug.

Quick Update

I have a bunch of photos from the last week or two, including the kids decorating the Christmas tree, that I haven't posted yet. Caitlin started getting sick Friday night with puking and a high fever. We got her in to the after hours clinic and tested for strep. Luckily, the strep test was negative, but she still had a rough night Friday night and again Saturday night.

The good news is that her fever has broken and seems to be gone. The other good news is that she weighed 23lbs (and some ounces) which is a gain of about 3lbs. from her last check-up. It doesn't sound like a lot -- but for her it is!

We rented movies for Caitlin to watch Saturday to help keep her calm and try to keep her fever down. She has discovered a new Disney character that she loves -- Tinkerbell! She loves the Tinkerbell movie. I think we've watched it probably 10 times each day since we've had it. She is so cute saying "Tinkerbell, Tinkerbell" and she even kinda looks like Tinkerbell when her hair is pulled up into a ponytail.

We took the kids this evening to get their ornaments for this year (we let them each pick out one new ornament each year as a family tradition) and Caitlin picked out the Tinkerbell ornament. Caitlin started crying when the sales lady put it in the box because Caitlin wanted it and thought the lady was taking it away! Conall had wanted the Wall-E ornament, but they were out, so he picked out a Lionel train engine instead.

So far, Conall has only had a low grade fever, if that. We are REALLY hoping he doesn't get this virus. The doctor called it a "flu-like virus." I've had a low grade fever myself, but I'm hoping that is just from running on little sleep.
