Recovering From Strep and Making Trucks

Conall got sick Thursday night and spent most of the night complaining of a sore throat and puking. We went to the doctor Friday and they tested him for strep throat, which turns out he had. Funny thing is, he never really ran a fever. Luckily, the doctor wanted him to have an antibiotic shot rather than oral antibiotics, since he had been puking so much. He was full of pent up energy and ready for school on Monday.

While recuperating, Conall made a truck for Caitlin out of some boxes that I had set aside to recycle. He taped everything together and drew pictures for the interior. They both were really proud of it and it was lots of fun until they started fighting over it. Needless to say, it went out with the recycling this morning. I'm waiting on the fit one or both of them throws when they realize it is gone.

Not Strep

I spoke with the nurse and the strep test was negative.
Once we were finally able to get some fluids and medicine in Conall, his fever finally went down. Although, he is fighting rest and sleep with everything he has, which isn't helping anything.

Still Feverish

Conall still has a high fever. And, now he is dehydrated. He threw up this morning and had some diarrhea. If the fever doesn't break, or he isn't any better by the time Stu is off work, we'll be taking him back to the doctor. I've also called the office to double check on the overnight strep test results. We'll let you know more later.

Update on Conall

We didn't get a call about strep today, so I guess the test was negative, unless of course they call tomorrow. Caitlin shows no signs of this virus/strep yet, but she is still really fussy from her cold and from jealousy over Conall getting a lot of the attention. Short story is that his fever did go down some today, but only to go right back up later. Not much else has improved.

Conall was an absolute MONSTER most of the day. He's mad that he's sick, he's mad that I'm making him rest, he wants to go to school, he was mad at the cold bath I gave him when the fever went back up to 103.5. He hasn't slept all day and was up last night from 3 a.m. to 5 a.m. He's grouchy, frustrated, bored, feverish, achy, somewhat dehydrated, and doesn't feel well. And, he obviously thinks I'm an idiot since he won't listen to anything I tell him about drinking fluids, resting, etc., but will do some of it for daddy without a fight. Daddy must be much smarter than mommy. I'm tired, tired, tired, frustrated and grouchy.

I think that pretty much sums up the day. Just praying none of the rest of us get it. Conall's school is out Friday and Monday for teacher records and parent/teacher conferences. I haven't dared to inform him of this.

The only humor I've found is that when he gets really feverish and talks nonsense, he becomes concerned about missing his school field trip to the pumpkin patch (not until the 28th) and about whether or not a weed he put in a glass of water and is calling his apple tree, will grow and produce apples.

This reminds me of Pop Pop when he got high fevers and going on and on about his green truck and if it was safe and being cared for. It used to make my mom really mad that the only thing he seemed concerned about when he was feverish was that "d*** truck" and not her.

Fever

Conall is on his way to the doctor. His fever got up to 103 today and he is complaining of the back of his throat and the glands in his throat hurting. We'll see if it is strep throat. I'll update when I know.

Update 6:37 p.m. : The office strep throat test was negative, although Conall had 4 of the symptoms, including the white spots in the back of his throat. They are going to send it off for the overnight test and will let us know if it is positive.
