Cait or Caitlin?

Before we found out Conall was a boy, we had picked out two names that we really liked for our baby. Of course, everyone knows we picked Conall for a boy. We had also picked out Caitlin for a girl, with Ruth as the middle name after my grandmother, Ruth Adams, who I am named for.

When we found out Caitlin was a girl, Caitlin was a natural choice for her, since we had already chosen it and liked it. We talked about how she could be nicknamed Cait, Caitie, Cat, etc. and how when she started school, she or her friends might decide to call her by one of these nicknames. We never really started calling her any of them as a baby, because we were waiting to see which one fit her. Our favorite was Cait, but neither one of us really liked Caitie or Cat, so those were discarded.

Well, I think Caitlin has decided for herself -- at least for the time being. When we were at Pop Pop's, she started calling herself "Cait". He was showing her different pictures of people on the blog and asking her who they were. Every time they got to a picture of her, she'd say "Cait." She kept doing it once we got home and still does (if she doesn't say "baby" instead). And, then at Kate's (Megan and Wade's daughter) birthday party, she turned her head every time she heard someone say "Kate."
