Conall's Caterpillar

Conall has been wanting a caterpillar for over a year now. Today, when we walked to the car at school, we saw one. I wouldn't let him take it home because we didn't have anything with us to put it in. I promised that as soon as we got home we would change clothes and go outside to look for caterpillars. I thought it might take at least 15 minutes and a good hunting to find one.

We changed clothes, he grabbed his "bug habitat" container that Grandma gave him, and he sat on the porch while I got Caitlin's shoes on. By the time Caitlin and I made it to the door, Conall had a caterpillar!

Conall named it Squeaky. It is now living on my mantel in Conall's bug habitat with a bunch of different leaves. We think it is an Eastern tent caterpillar -- or as Conall called it -- an Easter caterpillar and that it will turn into a moth. Based on a little research, Stu and I also think it is getting ready to build a cocoon.

He looks very pleased about his captured caterpillar! He has liked them for a long time, hasn't he?

He looks very proud of himself. You'll have to post pics when it builds its cocoon.
