I Made Dinner
Conall has become really interested lately when I cook. As we all know his "helping" may or may not be a good thing. Tonight I was making a taco casserole with ground turkey. While the turkey was still browning, I started mixing together the other ingredients.
Conall came into the kitchen about this time. He wanted to "help me." I told him (grudgingly) that he could and I kept doing what I was doing while Conall went and got a stool to stand at the counter. He wasn't very happy that I'd already managed to pour the canned soup, beans and Rotel into the bowl and start mixing it -- did I mention that I also sent him to wash his hands?
So, when he returned from hand washing, Conall declared that he would "stir" it for me. Aside from him wanting to add the Doritos I'd layered in my casserole pan to the mixture, and continuing to try to, he did really well. This was good, since I was still browning the turkey. He also kept asking me if this was going to be my dinner or my lunch (since he knew he'd never eat it!).
He stirred and pretended to chop. I added a taco seasoning mix and as I was adding it he told me "I want to do that." Oh well, too late. At least he could stir it in, but the casserole, instead of the kitchen counters and cabinets, would get the seasoning packet.
Then, it was time to add the cooked meat. Conall's main comment was "this is really thick now, it is hard to stir." But stir he did. I spooned the very well-mixed ingredients on top of the Doritos crust.
Next, I got the shredded cheese out. Conall wanted to dump all of it on top of the casserole. I had to show him how to spread it evenly. He then became obsessed with covering up the areas that had more cheese than others. However, he did want to try the cheese and ate a few bites of it (Conall trying food of his own free will -- shocking, huh?).
We finished sprinkling cheese on top and Conall declared "There, I made dinner."
Conall then left the room to go play trains while I baked the casserole in the oven. I'm so glad he made dinner.

Conall's Phone Call
Conall and his friend Tristan are both home from school today due to a "snow day". Jana let Tristan call Conall this afternoon. The part of the conversation I heard was
"I'm going to set up my Thomas Discovery track again. Will you come play with it for my birthday?"
"Are you coming to my party? It is at the Jump Zone!"
"Can you come to my house to play this time? Yes, my mom will let you."

Better
The kids are both better today. Conall went to school this morning. Caitlin's fever has remained low grade today, which is so much better than yesterday. She has told me once that her ear "hurts" and actually laid still and let me put drops and a cotton ball in it.
Conall slept all night for the first time since he got sick. Caitlin slept for a 4-hour stretch last night in Conall's old car seat. Once we figured out that part of the problem with her waking up was the pain in her ears and not just the fever, we stuck her in there. It worked until her fever went up in the middle of the night. So, I got some uninterrupted sleep, too! I'm still far from being back up to speed, but at least I can complete a thought today.

Kindness, Compassion and Good Friends
Thanks to Matt and Jana for their thoughtfulness today. Jana baked us a casserole, bought us a pre-made specialty pizza, packed a salad, fruit, fruit dessert, 2 bottles of 5 hour energy drinks, and a funny card, and Matt drove it down from Conway this afternoon (and they even had a dinner guest for tonight).
I can't express how much this means to me guys nor how much it helped out! We love you!

The Bug Goes to the Dr Update
Caitlin went to the doctor this morning. They think she has an ear infection and have prescribed an antibiotic. I'll update more once I've had a little rest.
Update 6:26 p.m. Sorry -- we were up all night, literally with 102-104 degree fever. I've been up all night most of the week with one or both kids, so I'm not functioning so well.
The doctor's visit today was not fun. First, there was the weight freak out -- she's lost some from being sick and not eating and today's nurses weren't familiar with our whole underweight issue. Then, they couldn't get a good read on Caitlin's temp reading it under her arm (it kept reading 98.2 and she was burning up!) and she would not open her mouth to let them do an oral temp. Yep, you guessed it, only one other way to check it at the drs office. It took two nurses and me three tries to get it. By then, she was pretty mad!
Next was looking at her throat, which the doctor was able to do during screams with her mouth wide open. Then, they couldn't see in her ears because both were plugged with wax. She is so small and her ears so little, they couldn't scrape it out. We had to do the saline warm water bottle/tubing cleaning. It took 3 bottles of water per ear, two nurses and me, and a sheet wrapped around her like a straight-jacket to do this.
They still were only able to move the wax in the ear that was bothering her, not actually get it all out. Then, it took two doctors and me to look in her ears! Thus, the "we think" she has an ear infection in her right ear (the really plugged one) diagnosis. We have 10 days worth of antibiotics and some numbing drops to get us through. I also have to reschedule her 2 year check up and her vaccinations, which were scheduled for Monday.
I am so ready for this day to be over and to get some sleep!

Worse
Caitlin took a turn for the worse tonight around 6:30. She's running 103. 5, coughing constantly, and messing with her ear a lot. The after-hours clinic was completely booked for tonight, so we have an appointment for tomorrow.
Counting
Caitlin was sitting at the table eating chocolate bears when she said "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10" as she picked out bears. It appears that our little 2 year old knows how to count to ten (don't know if she counted the bears correctly or not)! Who says blondes aren't smart?
Sleepless (and feverish) in Little Rock
Well, once again we're all sick here. Conall ran a fever of 103.8 yesterday before we got it down. Stu took him to the after-hours clinic (which Conall is still making me pay for in guilt) and he has a bad inner ear infection. The doctor said that if we had an infection that bad we'd be howling about it and that Conall was handling it really well. Once again, the malrotation has given him one heck of a pain tolerance!
Conall and Caitlin took turns getting up all night last night. At least they took turns! Then, about 5:30 a.m. Conall was up and ready to go. The wonderful result of Tylenol with codeine -- it makes him climb the walls. He's still running a fever around 101-102 depending on how active he gets. And, he is complaining of the other ear hurting today. About 5 a.m. he told me that he "had a fairy in my ear." Don't know where he got that one.
Caitlin has a snotty nose and a low grade fever. So far, hers only got up over 100 once. I'm sneezing and coughing and probably running a fever, but haven't had a chance to check it. Stu and I got very little sleep last night -- I'm not sure I even got 2 solid hours.
Ok, I guess I'm done complaining now. Just wanted to give everyone an update.
Update: 3;15 p.m. Caitlin is now running 102.6. Conall took a long nap this afternoon, but woke up with his fever back up to 102.

Birthday Pics
We opened Caitlin's birthday gifts from Stu and I earlier today. Conall was really jealous and mad about her being the center of attention, which was strange because until now he had handled this really well. We were very disappointed in him, but later I looked over and realized that he had "fever eyes". When I checked his temperature, it was up to 102.
The year Caitlin was born, Conall got sick the day Caitlin was born with a "fever virus". He had a high fever (103 and higher) for more than 5 days and had to stay with NaNa and PoPo until he was fever-free for more than 24 hours, so that he wouldn't give it to Caitlin or me. I guess there is a history there, huh?

Caitlin's 2nd Birthday
We celebrated Caitlin's 2nd birthday (her actual birthday is Monday) with a party at our house today.

Just Like Your Brother
Stu and I were playing with Caitlin during his lunch break today. She did something, which neither of us can remember, and I said "You are just like your brother." She immediately, with no hesitation whatsoever, said "No I'm not."
